When devotion gets in the way

As you can see from the above vid, there were cars, autos and other vehicles patiently waiting for the road to clear. The decibel level is pretty high too. This was taken at around 9 am in the morning. The same event occurred at 3.00 am that morning (or night – whichever way you look at it!). Understandably, I shot out of bed wondering what the racket was about.

Through bleary eyes, I noticed the devoted mass dancing in the streets. Whilst I do give it to them that they have every right to show their devotion in every which way that pleases them, should it encroach on others’ lives? At 3.00 am, is it too much to expect to get some undisturbed sleep?

Or is it blasphemy?

  • Blasphemy. Hm… Probably not. But it can be a little scary to see an annoyed miss enroute :)

DG: Scary still to see one bleary-eyed and half-mad with sleep!

  • It sucks,s doesn’t it? In Mumbai, every other week life gets disrupted by something like this and it spans religions and communities… traffic jams, music well beyond legal decibel levels, unruly mobs – one is supposed to just accept it all because it’s done in the name of God.

DG: Too right, Rohini! But I don’t understand why God would want to disrupt man as he goes about his daily toils or when he’s catching some desperately needed Zzzzz’s. The things man commits in God’s name, boy oh boy. Do you ever think reason will prevail and there will be some regulation as to time and day when such things can happen?

    Probably when Hell freezes over!!
